Gorman Gives

Since its origins Gorman Bros. Lumber (Gormans) has been community oriented and has believed in giving back to the local communities that it calls home. With a strong understanding that healthy communities are built through people working together, Gormans has partnered with, many different organizations who share these similar core values.

We are particularly proud of our employees who share this outlook by donating their time and/or finances to support and build these partnerships.  Many donate their time by coaching local sports teams, some work to increase awareness of local wildlife issues, while others work endlessly with non-profits, to name just a few of the projects Gorman employees contribute to.

In 2015 “Gorman Gives” was established to provide a new avenue for employees to give back to the community. Through our support of the Central & South Okanagan Similkameen United Way, the Central Okanagan Food BankKelowna’s Gospel MissionKelowna General Hospital Foundation, local Boys and Girls Clubs, and Food for Thought Lunch Programs.  Charities and groups benefit from both the company and employee assistance.

SPRING 2016

In the spring of 2016, the Kelowna Gospel Mission approached Gormans requesting a few new boards for them to fix an old deck at a women’s home – The Harmony House.  Once Gorman employees saw the state of disrepair the deck was in they wanted to do more.  Employees donated their time and labour skills, over the weekends and after work, to tear down the original deck and build a beautiful patio space. Using carpentry and landscaping skills they put together a beautiful safe space for children to run around, and for residents to enjoy the outdoors.

FALL 2017

In the fall of 2017, Gormans was approached by a local Boys and Girls club, asking if any Gorman’s employees would be able to donate some time and resources to build a new bench/ storage area for their building.

Jumping at the opportunity, many of the carpentry crew volunteered their time and went out of their way to build and install a 22 foot bench with storage area, along with a 44 hooks to hang coats and backpacks.
